Mr. Yates is the President and Chief Executive Officer of NiSource Inc. From 2012 until his retirement in 2019, Mr. Yates served in senior leadership roles with Duke Energy, including Executive Vice President and President of Duke Energy s Carolinas Region and Executive Vice President of Customer Operations. Mr. Yates has more than 40 years of experience in the energy industry, including the areas of nuclear and fossil energy generation and delivery. Before the merger between Duke Energy and Progress Energy in July 2012, Mr. Yates served as President and Chief Executive Officer for Progress Energy Carolinas. Mr. Yates joined Progress Energy s predecessor, Carolina Power & Light, in 1998. Before joining Progress Energy, he worked for PECO Energy for 16 years in several line operations and management positions.
