C. Thomas Evans, Jr. is a seasoned executive with over three decades of experience in corporate law and insurance. He joined Kemper Corporation in 2005 as Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary, following a distinguished tenure at Allstate Corporation, where he served as Associate General Counsel from 2000 to 2005. Prior to Allstate, Evans was an attorney at the international law firm McDermott, Will & Emery, specializing in complex litigation, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance. His early career honed his expertise in navigating high-stakes legal challenges within the financial services sector, establishing him as a trusted advisor to senior leadership. Throughout his tenure at Kemper, a leading insurance holding company, Evans has risen through the ranks, becoming Senior Vice President in 2008 and Executive Vice President in 2011. He has been instrumental in driving key strategic initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions, enterprise risk management, and regulatory affairs. Notable achievements include guiding the company through significant transactions, such as the acquisition of Infinity Property and Casualty Corporation, and ensuring compliance amid evolving industry regulations. His leadership has strengthened Kemper's governance framework, earning him recognition for fostering a culture of integrity and innovation. Currently serving as Interim Chief Executive Officer, Secretary, and General Counsel, Evans assumed the CEO role in 2023 following a leadership transition, while continuing to oversee all legal, compliance, and secretarial functions. In this multifaceted position, he steers Kemper's strategic direction, focusing on growth in specialty insurance lines, operational efficiency, and shareholder value.
