Dr. Robert Quartermain is a distinguished mining executive with over 40 years of experience in the exploration, development, and production of precious metals deposits worldwide. A geologist by training with a PhD from the University of British Columbia, he began his career with major mining companies such as Placer Dome and Bema Gold, where he honed his expertise in gold and silver exploration. His early roles focused on discovering and advancing high-potential projects, establishing him as a leader in resource delineation and mine development. Dr. Quartermain's most notable achievement came as President and CEO of Pretium Resources Inc., which he co-founded in 2010. Under his stewardship, Pretium transformed from an exploration-stage company into a major gold producer with the high-grade Brucejack mine in British Columbia, achieving first gold pour in 2017. This success culminated in the $3.0 billion acquisition of Pretium by Newcrest Mining Limited in 2022—one of the largest mining transactions in recent history—delivering exceptional returns to shareholders. His prior tenure as President and CEO of Silver Standard Resources further solidified his reputation for value creation through strategic growth and operational excellence. As President and CEO of Dakota Gold Corp., Dr. Quartermain leads the company's efforts to revive and expand gold exploration in South Dakota's legendary Homestake District, including the high-potential Richmond Hill Gold Project. Drawing on his proven track record, he is driving aggressive drilling programs, resource expansion, and innovative geophysical targeting to unlock the district's multi-million-ounce potential, positioning Dakota Gold as a premier North American gold developer.
